ONE SWING MEANS WINNING ROAD TRIP
Well, that Metrodome magic continues for the Twins. Sweeping the Seattle Mariners in their three game series again proves my point. The Twins are now 13-5 at home, so it must be the home cooking or just a bunch of guys knowing how important it is to win at home. In the Twins Championship seasons, winning at home was the reason they won their division and for two teams, the World Series.

We all should remember what home field advantage meant to 1987 and 1991 World Series Champs! And some people think that fans don’t mean a thing! Keep supporting these Twins.
After sweeping the Mariners, the Twins were off again for a six game road trip, three in Chicago and three in Toronto.
The White Sox series was a big one and the Twins were able to win two of three games. The Twins won the first two games because starters Kyle Lohse and Seth Gresinger pitched great. Then, in game three, they ran into the Sox starter, Mark Buehrle who has been toughest on the Twins over the years. He was given an early lead and the Twins ended up losing 11-0. It was the second time they have been shutout this season. But, winning two of three was nice. Torii Hunter did hit his 100th Major League homerun in the second game. He is only the 9th Twins player to hit 100 or more homeruns in a Twins uniform. Nice going Torii.
In Toronto the Twins won the first game but lost game two. With the rubber game on Wednesday, Toronto had a 5-2 lead going into the top of the 9th inning. The 9th inning belonged to Toronto closer Terry Adams, who had saved the Tuesday night win for the Blue Jays. But those Twins never say die.
They loaded the bases and then with one out, Matthew LeCroy pinch hit for Alex Prieto. He jumped on Adams second pitch and hit it over the right centerfield fence for a grand slam and a 6-5 lead. It was his first Major League grand slam and one he will never forget. I bet Terry Adams will never forget it either! I wish I could remember all of the homeruns I gave up but there were too many. Joe Nathan pitched the bottom of the inning and got his 13th save of the year.
With one swing of the bat, the Twins had a winning road trip. It might be a homerun we will remember when the season comes to a close and they’re fighting for the division title.
Now the Twins are headed home for a big four-game series against the Chicago White Sox. If you can, you might want to come out and see one of these games. It should be a good weekend and let’s hope the luck goes in the Twins favor.
Everybody needs a little luck on their side but don’t look for luck. It will find you if you believe in yourself and your work ethics. Be good to each other and kick some butt.
Your baseball friend,
Bert Blyleven
